We are Jenny Raw and Rachel Wibberley, students at Nottingham Girls' High School (NGHS) GDST, interested in and passionate about the representation and progress of women.

Stemming from our work with the National Council of Young Women, facilitated by our school, we have been invited to attend the United Nations Commission for the Status of Women, in New York, in March 2017 as delegates of the National Council of Women Great Britain, supported by the GDST. The NCWGB has Special Consultative Status at the United Nations and therefore can accredit its members to CSW. We are delighted to have earned a place on their delegation to CSW.

NGHS was the pioneering school in encouraging young women and girls to come together and form The National Council of Young Women GB (NCYW) in 2008. Since then, NCYW has been launched nationally in schools across the country. Each year, there are annual seminars and conferences, bringing together young people from a range of social backgrounds, giving them a platform to voice their opinions on issues relevant to them. From here, there are opportunities to join the National Council of Women GB (one of the 60 national councils affiliated to the International Council of Women), where women can propose resolutions to government.

Our blog will follow our journey, as we count down the days to this amazing opportunity, whilst balancing preparations with our A Levels  - we cannot wait to get started. United Nations - here we come!
