GDST AND NGHS

The Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST) is the leading group of independent girls’ schools in the UK, with nearly 4,000 staff and 20,000 students between the ages of three and 18. As a charity that owns and runs a family of 24 schools and two academies in England and Wales, it reinvests all its income in its schools. Founded in 1872, the GDST has a long history of pioneering innovation in the education of girls.

The core values of the GDST set out how we go about our work and how we expect our people to behave. They encapsulate a simple, active and challenging guide for all the GDST’s staff and pupils. Each description stands on its own terms, without further explanation, so any of us can measure ourselves against them, asking “Am I doing the right thing?”

They are:

  • Girls first - Put the girls' interests, happiness and wellbeing first at all times. Encourage each girl to be the best she can be, to reach her full potential.

  • Networked - Work together productively within our schools, our communities and the GDST as a whole. Share inspiration among ourselves and with others.

  • Principled - Always do the right thing. Be open, honest and accountable.

  • Bold - Take risks, push hard and overcome setbacks. Do things in a new way. Have a go. Have fun.

One of our aims is to prepare young women to realise their potential and make a meaningful difference in the world: encouraging resourcefulness, resilience, risk-taking and emotional strength, developing skills to prepare them for higher education and work.

"We are hugely grateful to our school for allowing us to take such an opportunity and take a step towards our future careers" - Jenny and Rachel

This opportunity has been made possible for us by the funding and support of our school, Nottingham Girls' High School and the Girls' Day School Trust

"We are proud to support Jenny and Rachel as our GDST global outreach ambassadors, using their time at CSW61 to share the views of girls and young women across the GDST network and gathering information to share with the network on their return." - GDST
