Day 4: Storm Stella Strikes!

Even in the middle of a United Nations event, where so many people have travelled from across the world to be there - sometimes, the weather decides what will happen!

Today we were hit by Storm Stella, forecasted 20" of snow, we were relieved that the blizzard was not as bad as first thought near the UN, although sadly, all CSW events were cancelled and the UN was closed. However, a day at the hotel all together and ready to work is something which doesn't happen very often - so we didn't let the time go to waste!

Firstly, with Friday soon approaching, I spent my morning practising my speech. Focusing on intonation, clarity and timing, having listened to so many inspirational speakers at CSW, I hope that I can live up to the legacy of fantastic speakers we have witnessed here.

After venturing out in the snow to buy some lunch (intrepid adventurers limited only by our smart footwear which isn't perfect for this weather!), we returned to the hotel, ready for work.

The National Council of Young Women is an organisation which is close to all of our hearts, and soon, we would like to develop this programme so that each individual member has a record of their own progression. Therefore, we set about making a specification of key responsibilities, personal attributes and skills neccesary to be a good NCYWer as well as considering possible training methods. We are looking forward to sharing these ideas with the rest of NCW and working towards an even stronger future for NCYW.

After a cold day still filled with activity, it was great to make an unplanned situation turn positive.

But tomorrow, we are looking forward to getting back into the swing of things and waving goodbye to the snow!
